Nick Karanges

Bachelor of Optometry (Hons) & Grad. Cert. Ocular Therapeutics (UNSW)

Nick graduated from the University of New South Wales with honours in 2012. Nick has since developed a particular interest in contact lenses and the management of retinal disease. Nick is one of two optometrists at Evans and McMahon that are qualified to prescribe ophthalmic medications.

Nick enjoys all types of contact lens fitting but gets particularly enthusiastic about keratoconic rigid lens fitting. These eyes are often heavily distorted, making vision with spectacles poor. He finds the process of taking someone from poor vision with glasses to excellent vision with contact lenses to be extremely rewarding. He also enjoys fitting orthokeratology contact lenses and attended the Orthokeratology Society of Oceania’s conference in 2014.

Nick was the recipient of the Eyecare Plus/Essilor Professional Recognition award in 2014 and spent a week in Paris with other optometrist and dispensers learning about the newest technology in multifocal spectacle lenses.

In his time off Nick enjoys playing football (soccer), fishing, riding his bikes, skiing and surfing. He is also the proud parent of a border collie puppy named Poppy.
